The deep ocean has always been a vault of secrets, but a recent discovery has unveiled a ‘whale necropolis’ that serves as a 5.3-million-year-old archive of life on the seafloor. These whale falls—carcasses that sink to the abyss—create sudden, rich concentrations of biodiversity, sustaining entire ecosystems for decades in the cold dark. For scientists, this find provides an unprecedented look at evolution, carbon sequestration, and the silent giants that have ruled the waves since long before our era.

There is a haunting majesty in these submerged graveyards. They represent more than just death; they are biological bridges between the surface and the deep, and between the past and the present. In the world of Dino Age, such remnants are often the first signs of something much more profound. These ancient echoes suggest that the history of our planet is not just buried, but waiting to be reawakened by forces we are only beginning to understand.

In The First Fracture, Owen first encounters the true scale of prehistory through his mysterious amulet found in Costa Rica. Just as these whale falls act as anchors for life in the dark, the Time Fractures Owen discovers act as anchors for reality itself—though far more volatile. While exploring the depths, Owen realizes that the amulet reacts to these ‘deep-time’ concentrations. The purple rifts in reality often manifest near these sites of immense biological history, causing the environment to become unstable. To Owen, a necropolis isn’t just a fossil record; it is a point of temporal friction where the past threatens to bleed into the present. He must stabilize these fractures before the majesty of the prehistoric world turns into a cataclysmic overlap.
