The rugged coastline of South Africa’s Western Cape has long been a sentinel of secrets, but recent discoveries have unveiled a chapter of history never seen before. Researchers have identified world-first fossil tracks belonging to ancient birds and tortoises, etched into the stone as if time itself had paused to take a breath.

These traces provide more than just biological data; they offer a window into a thriving ecosystem from tens of thousands of years ago. To the untrained eye, they are mere indentations. To those who understand the weight of prehistory, they are a map of a world that existed long before the modern era redefined our shores. The majesty of these animals is captured in the very ground they once traversed, preserved against the elements for eons.

In the narrative of The First Fracture, such discoveries are rarely just relics of the past. Owen, during his initial excavations, learned that some marks in the earth aren’t left by the slow passage of millennia, but by the violent ripples of Time Fractures. These purple rifts in reality don’t just transport life; they leave scars on the geography itself, often appearing near sites of high temporal instability. As Owen struggles to stabilize these fractures using his mysterious amulet, he often encounters such ‘ghost tracks’—clues to where the timeline is bleeding.

While these South African finds are a triumph for paleontology, they serve as a reminder of how little we know about the stability of our own timeline. Owen’s mission to find the source of the instability is more urgent than ever, as the majestic creatures of the past begin to find their way into our present through these growing cracks in reality.
