History is rarely a straight line; it is a complex web of overlapping lives and shifting horizons. Recent findings by scientists from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP) in China have unearthed a profound connection within our own lineage. Fossilized teeth dating back 400,000 years suggest that Homo erectus may have shared a deeper biological bond with the mysterious Denisovans than ever before suspected.

Using advanced paleoproteomics—a method that analyzes ancient proteins with minimal damage to the specimen—researchers are beginning to see the ‘ghosts’ of our ancestors in a new light. These findings indicate that the evolutionary paths of prehistoric hominids were not isolated, but frequently converged, creating a rich and dangerous tapestry of life across the Pleistocene landscape.

This convergence of timelines is something Owen, the protagonist of The First Fracture, knows all too well. While modern scientists use protein sequences to bridge the gap of 400,000 years, Owen deals with the raw reality of ‘Time Fractures.’ These shimmering purple rifts in the fabric of existence do more than just transport a survivor from a Costa Rican excavation to the Triassic—they cause a fundamental instability in the world. Much like the newly discovered links between H. erectus and Denisovans, Owen has learned that the boundaries between eras are far thinner than we believe. As he wields the mysterious amulet discovered in the hidden temple, he realizes his mission isn’t just to survive the majestic creatures of the past, but to stabilize the very fractures that threaten to collapse the history of our world into one chaotic moment.
