The shifting sands of Egypt have recently revealed a secret long buried beneath the desert: a radical transformation of our oceans. While the extinction of the dinosaurs is often viewed through the lens of terrestrial upheaval, new fossil evidence confirms that the seas underwent an equally explosive metamorphosis. As the ancient giants faded, the ecological vacuum was filled with startling speed by the ancestors of the fish we recognize today.

This sudden rise of modern marine fauna marks a pivotal moment in the history of our planet, yet for those who walk between the layers of time, this discovery is more than just a scientific footnote. In the Dino Age universe, Owen—the protagonist of ‘The First Fracture’—first encountered the power of the prehistoric past not in the water, but within a hidden chamber in Costa Rica. However, the amulet he discovered there pulsates with an energy that transcends geography.

The ‘Time Fractures’—those jagged, purple rifts in reality—do not respect the boundaries of land and sea. In the depths of the ocean, these instabilities threaten to undo the very progress recorded in the Egyptian fossils. Where Owen works to stabilize the fractures, he sees the danger of the ‘Old Deep’ bleeding into the ‘New Deep,’ causing the majestic creatures of the prehistoric seas to lash out with uncharacteristic aggression. The struggle to maintain the timeline is a battle for the soul of the ocean itself. This new scientific evidence proves that the world was once a place of rapid, violent change—a world that is now leaking into our own through the rifts.
